How to be Saved

Study – Gospel

 The Way to Eternal Life

The Bible says that God loves you, warts, freckles pimples … the lot – 1 John 4:8, John 3:16
and that God’s saving love is FREE
A person cannot  earn points with God by being good  Romans 3:20, Ephesians 2:8,9

We have a problem!  (Bad news)
We have all sinned and fall short of the glory of God  Romans 3:23
Each of us is under a death sentence.  The wages of sin is death  Romans 6:23
Being good today will not make up for being bad yesterday

There is a solution!  (Good news)
God is love.  He does not want us to die.  But what can he do.  To set aside his law would mean a universe where chaos reigned.  His alternative has been to provide a substitute, someone to take our punishment, to die in our place.
– God’s gift – His Son  Romans 6:23
– God’s forgiveness 1 John 1:9
– God wants to change us inside  Ezekiel 18:31; 36:26
– God wants you to be saved  2 Peter 3:9

The choice is yours

Steps for Salvation

  •   Admit to God that you have sinned
  • Realize that you deserve to die
  • Believe that Jesus took your place, your death on the cross because he loves you; that your sins have been forgiven.
  • Be willing to live for him
  • Imagine that you have just run a red light and smashed into a brand new Rolls Royce.  The owner of the Rolls is severely injured and spends many months in hospital.  When he has recovered he sues you for damages, pain and suffering, and loss of income while he was in hospital.  (Don’t worry.  He only earns $100,000 a week).

The case goes to court and the judge rules against you.  You are ordered to pay $10,000,000.  That shouldn’t be too difficult to raise within 14 days, should it?  You would be able to pay wouldn’t you?

    You wouldn’t!

Then you are in severe difficulty.  You are about to lose everything.

The judge pulls out his cheque book, writes for a moment then hands you a piece of paper with the instruction to go and pay what you owe.

Would you say “No thanks, I can raise the money”, or take it and gratefully pay your debt.

What next?  Would you start looking for another red light to run since the judge is so good?  I doubt it.

How would you feel about that judge?

What would you be willing to do for that judge?

The truth is we owe a good deal more.
… and Jesus paid a good deal more for you on the cross

    So what will you do.
Accept his payment on your behalf
    … or pay it yourself?

And how will you live afterward?

Are you willing to pray this prayer

Dear God,
I want you to take control of my life.  I want Jesus to come into my heart.  Please forgive me for my sins.  Thank-you for giving me eternal life in Jesus.  Help me to follow and obey Him.
In Jesus name, Amen.
